Jan Williamson

Oil on canvas, "Watching Dad" 76cm x 120cm

Jan Williamson is a tradional artist who paints magnificent oil paintings mostly depicting children in their natural environment. The fleeting moments of childhood innocence and the way children are absorbed in play, oblivious to the world around them is the essence of her work. Jan has nine children which has given her the opportunity to gather an abundance of material. The charm of her work lies in the honest character of her subjects and the warmth of their portrayal.

Jan's painting of an old Morton Bay Fig at North Sydney Oval has been awarded the people's choice award as part of the North Sydney Art Prize. Called "The Bears Tree" it had 33 children climbing on its branches. The painting now hangs in the Molly Dyebuilding at North Sydney Oval.
Her portrait of Tom Carroll was chosen to hand in the 2000 Archibold Art Prize Exhibition at the NSW Art Gallery and was the largest photograph published in the Telegraph 16/3/02 with the accompanying editorial.
